Nightclub - District Council response

I've had a very swift response to my e-mail requesting a Stop Notice on the nightclub. Unfortunately the Council don't think that a Stop Notice is required - this is what they said:

Such action is normally only taken where there is a clearly identifiable immediate and
ongoing harm to, for example, issues of neighbour amenity or where
immediate action is necessary to stop development that may otherwise be
more difficult to control if it continues, unauthorised building works
for example
.

I happen to think that there is clearly identifiable immediate and ongoing harm in terms of the amount speeding traffic late at night, and impact on local residents. If you agree, please let me or one of your District Councillors know so that we can put more pressure on the Council to take action.

Would the councillor try to obtain a stop notice for any other business setting up in the local area too? Or is she singling this one out due to it's supposedly "unsavoury" activities?

I am tempted to believe that the majority of people who complain about the new adult club in Over do so out of ignorance and fear, rather than reasoned objectiveness.

Whether it is your cup of tea or not, we should respect their right to choose. We do not yet live in an Orwellian society, and so the preservation of people's liberties should be sacrosanct, whatever their race, faith, or indeed sexual preferences, happen to be.

Finding nit-picking reasons to try to force the closure of this club is frankly pathetic, and one would expect better of a seasoned councillor.

If we think about this logically for a moment, I am sure most would prefer this club to be on the industrial estate rather than a house in the centre of the village. Noise, car parking, and any other social concerns are removed from sight. It suits us all.

And as for increased traffic speeding at night? If this is a serious concern, ask the police to set up a speed check on random nights. Better still, approach the owner of the club nicely and request of his clients to keep the village considerations in mind when departing.

Finally, of course there is increased traffic - most of the roads in and out Over are being worked on at the moment!! Thank the misguided bus project for that.
